Nashville Humane Association working to raise money for pet food bank through license plate sales

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — When picking out a license plate, the design options are almost endless. Now, pet lovers could have a new look to choose from.

The Nashville Humane Association could get its own specialty license plate. But first, one thousand people need to sign up and say that they want one. The proceeds from those sales would benefit Davidson County pet families going through difficult times.

Specialty plate would support animal shelter in Nashville

“We still have a way to go. We’re almost halfway, not quite there yet,” Taylor Spreitler, the association’s community engagement coordinator, said. “We still need a bit more support. We’re just we’re very hopeful.”

The money raised from the thirty-five-dollar specialty license plate would go directly to the Darcy Lashinsky Memorial Pet Food Bank located on Osceola Avenue. It currently assists families in Davidson County in tough financial situations.

“Last year alone, we distributed 16 tons of pet food to our community,” Spreitler said. “People can come by and pick up supplemental pet food for their pets. Times are tough. Everything’s more expensive.”

The pet food bank is open on Wednesdays from noon until 2 p.m. Owners with a maximum of five pets are allowed to come every other week, up to twice a month.

Once one thousand sign-ups are reached for the license plate, it would take about six months before they are shipped out. While there is no hard deadline in place yet, sign-ups are needed sooner rather than later.

“You can go on our website, or you can check out our social, which is @nashvillehumane on Instagram, and you can click the link in our bio, and it will take you there. You can make a $35 donation and then fill out the rest of the information. It’s super simple,” Spreitler said. “It takes about 30 seconds.”
