Neil Patrick Harris is celebrating his twins’ 13th birthday and embracing a new chapter of parenthood: raising teenagers.
On Thursday, the How I Met Your Mother alum’s daughter Harper and son Gideon began another trip around the sun, and their dad was feeling sentimental on the milestone occasion. “And, just like that, they’re teenagers,” Harris wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the twins wearing birthday hats while eating breakfast. Harper had just one afixed atop her head, while Gideon’s teenager boyness shone through via his three hats arranged across his crown.

Harris’ caption continued, “Happy birthday, Harper and Gideon. You are the lights of my life.” He relatably shared, “I can’t wait to watch you want nothing to do with me, and I promise I’ll be with you through all of it. Just, wow.” Ah, adolescence. It’s such a major transitional time for kids, the journey from childhood to adulthood. The actor and his husband, like all other parents of teens, are in for quite the adventure, but it’s not all angst and acne — and Harris’ followers assured him of that!
Among endless wonderful comments wishing the teens a happy birthday, fellow parents shared their own input on raising teenagers based on their experience. One person wrote, “Honestly teenagers are the best, it’s been my favourite years of parenting, teens are so much fun and we have loads of laughs, my boys are 17 and 15 now x.” Another fan opined, “Parenting teens is fun — it keeps us young!”
