  • Oprah Winfrey once arranged a surprise birthday dinner for Prince Harry.

  • She arranged for celebrity chef Cat Cora to secretly prepare the meal.

  • Cora revealed this anecdote to Lance Armstrong on an episode of Stars on Mars.

Prince Harry will be celebrating his 39th birthday this year on September 15—and while we don't yet know how the prominent royal will be celebrating his latest milestone, we've recently found out that he was once treated to a surprise birthday meal from none other than Oprah Winfrey.

Hello Magazine first reported the story in print, and how the outlet came across this information is, well, it's a sentence that might just read like pop culture word soup to you:

"Speaking on the reality TV show Stars on Mars, Iron Chef star Cat Cora told professional cyclist Lance Armstrong that Oprah had once hired her to cook a meal for the Duke of Sussex on his birthday."

Let's... alright, let's break that down a bit more.

Odds are, you're already familiar with Prince Harry himself. And you're probably not surprised to discover that the royal maintains a close friendship with the Queen of Television, Oprah Winfrey, particularly after their incendiary sit-down interview about his and Meghan Markle's experiences with the Royal Family.

So how do Cat Cora, Lance Armstrong, or Mars factor into the equation?

Cat Cora is a celebrity chef best known for her work on Iron Chef America. Currently, she can be seen on the aforementioned (and vaguely perplexing) Fox reality show Stars on Mars. In this program, she appears alongside other celebrities in a simulated space station, performing various tasks and challenges. As you might be able to guess, one of the other stars is controversial cyclist Lance Armstrong.

So now we're up to speed, right? Celebrity chef on a fake space station with a former professional cyclist. Typical television.

"One day I hear my phone ringing, and it's Oprah, and she says: 'Cat, it's Harry's birthday, and I need you to cook for them,'" Cora told Armstrong on the show. Now, Cora didn't reveal just what she made for the royal, but she did say that she befriended him and his wife, stating that they were "buddies."
