Paint date night hosted by Summers County ARH Hospital

HINTON, WV (WVNS) — Summers County ARH Hospital Senior Care Program will be hosting a Paint Date Night fundraiser.

National Senior Health and Fitness Day!

The event will be on Friday, May 31, 2024 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the cafeteria of the hospital. All proceeds from the event will go to help the Summers County Council on Aging to be able to buy a food truck for its Meals on Wheels program.

Jessica Meadows-Harbert, an RN and director of the Senior Care Program explained that the food truck will help those struggling to get food, especially those that are high risk and underprivileged in the county.

“Food insecurity is a significant problem in every community, but especially here in Summers County. We have people who live way far out who need help with food and who qualify for assistance, but without a food truck to safely regulate the temperature of food, they can’t easily be helped. This will help combat some of those issues,” said Meadows-Harbert.

The paint party is from a popular trend on social media that shows couples painting portraits of each other.

“They sit across from each other and paint, based on their own natural abilities, with no guidance. Some people are really good at it, and some are really bad. In truth, it makes it more interesting and fun when they’re bad. It really is just a way to make everyone laugh and have a good time,” added Meadows-Harbert. Supplies and color mixing charts for this event will also be provided.

Meadows-Harbert also believes that its important for the hospital to show their support for their community.

“And in this case, the collaboration really makes sense because some of the people the Summers County Council on Aging serves will also be people who might need our services as well,” she said, explaining that the Senior Care program offers help to those over 65 who struggle with mental health.

“We just want to provide a safe place and resources for people who might not always feel comfortable talking,” she continued.

You must register and pre-pay for Paint Date Night. The event will include door prizes and a 50/50 raffle. Food and beverages will also be provided by Summers County ARH, The Tea Shack and Sub Zero Treats.

“It’s going to be a fun evening and a great way to help support the community,” concluded, Meadows-Harbert.
