Panera Just Invented Double Bread Bowls, a Beautiful Carb-Filled Fantasy

Panera Bread is already well-known for its uncanny, fast-casual knack for satisfying most carb cravings, but now, the innovators at the restaurant chain seem to have outdone themselves. Case in point: Panera is bravely testing a divine creation known as the double bread bowl, as first reported by the Philly Inquirer.

Essentially, the double bread bowl is simply an entire loaf of bread with two holes hollowed out on opposite ends. This dog-bowl-like food receptacle can be used to hold any two signature soups or mac and cheese — and then, of course, can be devoured in all its carb-y, soup- and/or cheese-soaked deliciousness, too. Panera notes in a press release that they recommend sharing the double bread bowl “with your BFF, significant other, or even a coworker,” but honestly, if sacrificing even one bite of this loaf to another seems unthinkable to you, go ahead and live your truth by enjoying it solo.

There is one unfortunate catch, however: The double bread bowl is only offered in Philadelphia, for the time being. According to a press release, the item is available upon request exclusively in-store or for delivery at Philadelphia-area Paneras from August 5 to August 31. Though not all hope is lost; there is reportedly potential for a wider release in the future. (And if you're really desperate to sample a double bread bowl, like, right now, this seems like a fairly easy DIY project.)

Citizens of Philly, please do this nation a favor and prove to Panera that the double bread bowl is worth a nationwide rollout. In the meantime, we'll be over here, Google-mapping a summer road trip to the City of Brotherly Love, or as it should heretofore be known, the City of Bread Bowl Love.
