A Yahoo Canada shopping contributor put Paula’s Choice bestselling Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant to the test to see if it's worth the hype.

Here's what you need to know at a glance:

  • 💵 Price: $47 CAD

  • ⏰ Used for: Four months

  • ⭐ Our rating: 5/5

  • 🛍️ Reasons to buy: This liquid exfoliant will help get rid of dead skin, unclog your pores and smooth out wrinkles.

  • ✋ Reasons to avoid: If you prefer physical exfoliants, since this one uses BHAs instead of small particles like sugar or coffee grounds.

I’m usually not one to rave about exfoliants, but for the Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant, I’ll make an exception. Since I started using it in April of this year, it’s become an essential step in my skincare routine, especially when I’m having a breakout or when my skin is looking dull.

I’m not the only one obsessing over it. Since launching on Sephora Canada in February, it’s gotten some serious love — more than 1,400 reviewers are singing its praises on the site and thousands of TikTokers are equally obsessed.

To see why everyone is head over heels for it, keep reading for the full review.

The details

Made with a skin-transforming cocktail of salicylic acid (BHA) 2% for clearing away blemishes and shedding dead skin, Methylpropanediol for hydration and glow, and green tea for smoothing out fine lines and soothing irritated skin, Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant is a step up from your run-of-the-mill exfoliants. It’s also free of parabens and other nasties, while still being gluten-free, cruelty-free (it even comes in recyclable packaging).

It’ll leave your skin looking clearer, feeling smoother and give you that glow we all want and need.

Why I love it

While I have tried my fair share of both physical and chemical exfoliants, I’ve never really found one I’m loyal to — until now that is.

If you’re used to physical exfoliants, this will be a whole new world for you. Instead of a grainy texture, this liquid formula is buttery smooth and the opposite of irritating. It also doesn’t have a harsh smell, like many chemical exfoliants do.

It leaves my skin feeling super soft and has helped with uneven texture. I even find that my makeup goes on less patchy after using it. But that’s not all, because of how well it unclogs pores, I’ve seen significantly less breakouts. It’s truly a blessing to have in my arsenal around the time of my cycle and in the summer months when my skin is more oily.

What others are saying

The Sephora Canada reviews section is where you’ll find the real truth tellers when it comes to products. This is especially helpful when it comes to pricier products, like, say, a $47 exfoliant. But this one has them truly impressed, earning it a 4.4-star average rating from more than 1,400 customer reviews.

One reviewer who struggles with dry skin, red patches, rosacea and acne says it leave their skin looking “so fresh and healthy." Another adds that it’s *chef’s kiss* at addressing acne redness and scarring, so you know it’s legit.

And when it comes to battling hyperpigmentation, this stuff gets all the gold stars. One reviewer who struggles with dark spots says it “changed [their] skin almost immediately.”

And if you’re not ready to go all in, many reviewers have tested out the travel-size bottle to give it a whirl and come back for more as soon as they ran out. The more petite version costs $17, so you’ll save a few bucks.

Final thoughts

I’m a huge fan of this stuff. My skin drinks it right up and looks and feels amazing after using it. It’s not stripping and much less irritating than any physical exfoliant I’ve tried. If you’re looking for an exfoliating product that tackles a bunch of stuff (acne, dullness, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, texture), this is definitely for you.
