Pond Skim Season Is Underway In Pennsylvania

At Blue Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania, the resort with PA’s highest vertical at 1,082ft, is hosting their annual Pond Skim this Sunday, March 17th.

Officials at Blue Mountain announced this to Instagram, along with footage from pond skims prior. Like any proper pond skims, there are strange outfits, impressive tricks, and even more impressive wipeouts. Watch below.

The Pond Skim will take place on Vista right outside of the Summit Lodge.

Registration will be held 9am-11am in the Alpine room by Last Run Lounge, and the Pond Skim will kick off at Noon.

Unlike other resorts, this event is free to enter. Also, skimmers will receive an event t-shirt while supplies last.

Perhaps in the strangest turn of all, this year, Blue Mountain is dyeing the pond green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Pond skimming is beautiful for the reasons regular skiing (usually) is not: wearing strange and comedic costumes with no functional value, drawing attention to yourself on the hill, and getting praised for wiping out. Okay, the last one can sometimes ring true normally if you ski in a group where people respect the send more than the landing.

All of that in green water? Sounds like a blast (pun intended) to us.
