Prince William Visits the Welsh Parliament

Today, Prince William, the new Prince of Wales, visited the Senedd in Cardiff, to meet with representatives of the Welsh parliament.

After King Charles made William and Kate the new Prince and Princess of Wales, a royal source shared that the couple will focus on deepening the "trust and respect" of the Welsh people, and "will approach their roles in the modest and humble way they've approached their work previously."

When he spoke with politicians in the Senedd chamber, the Prince of Wales said he was learning Welsh phrases, according to reporter Will Hayward. Kensington Palace tweeted later in Welsh and English, "Great to be @SeneddWales today, hearing from members of the Senedd and Welsh Youth Parliament about the issues that matter most to communities across Wales."

Prince William also reiterated that he did not plan to have a formal investiture, like his father did.

During the visit William was asked about the upcoming World Cup, where Wales and England face off in the group stage. "I support both," he said, diplomatically. "I support England more in the football but Wales in the rugby. When I was growing up Wales didn’t get through to the tournaments but I will be supporting them all the way through the process." He added, "Getting to the World Cup is a big deal and I’ll be supporting Wales through the process."

Earlier this week, he met with Team England before they departed for Qatar, a meeting which some saw as "inappropriate" given his new title as Prince of Wales. "He can, of course, support whoever he likes and as Pres of FA his role makes visit understandable - but surely he sees holding the title Prince of Wales at same time is entirely inappropriate? Not a shred of embarrassment? Or sensitivity to the problem here?" actor Michael Sheen wrote on Twitter, with several others commenting on the issue as well.

Though Prince William is president of the English Football Association, he has no current plans to attend the World Cup.
