The Royal Family Issued a Super-Rare Joint Statement About an “Incendiary” New BBC Doc
Today in somewhat exhausting fancy family drama, the royals are said to be upset over a two-part BBC documentary called The Princes and the Press—which will reportedly cover Prince William and Prince Harry’s “tumultuous” relationship and include “incendiary” claims that they allegedly tried to smear each other in the press via their aides (which palace sources previously denied to the Daily Mail).
And now, Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, and Kensington Place have issued a rare joint statement in response to the documentary, which, per Hello! magazine, ran at the end of part 1:
“A free, responsible, and open press is of vital importance to a healthy democracy. However, too often it is overblown and unfounded claims from unnamed sources that are presented as facts and it is disappointing when anyone, including the BBC, gives them credibility.”
Part 2 of the documentary will air on November 29 and directly focuses on 2018 to 2021, “a tumultuous time for the royals that includes the birth of Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and the royal tours of the Sussexes and the Cambridges.”
According to the BBC, presenter Amol Rajan “also looks at the circumstances surrounding the Sussexes’ decision to step down from their senior royal roles, explores the legal cases brought by the couple against some newspaper groups from 2019 onwards, and considers the impact Princess Diana’s experiences with the press and broadcasters had on her sons.”
Sources previously reported that the royals could “boycott” the BBC and are expected to complain to regulator Ofcom for the “first time in history.” More info on that below, if you wanna get into it!
