Columbia County’s first Salvation Army thrift store is scheduled to open Saturday.

The international charity’s newest Family Store is set to open at 9 a.m. at 4099 River Watch Pkwy., Suite 4115, in the Shoppes at Petersburg, a commercial strip anchored by Hobby Town.

Grand-opening festivities will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The store will remain open until 6 p.m. The event will feature live music and, while supplies last, free food.

Proceeds from their thrift shops help fund its Center of Hope shelter on Greene Street and its ongoing fight against homelessness.

In addition to its downtown offices at the Kroc Center on Broad Street and the Center of Hope, the Salvation Army’s Augusta Area Command also runs a donation drop-off center at 3715 Benchmark Dr., off Flowing Wells Road; and a thrift store at 3206 Peach Orchard Rd.
