Sara Ramírez Won’t Be Back for 'And Just Like That ... ' Season 3

Che Diaz, we hardly knew you.

After the internet was chock-full of rumors about Sara Ramírez and their character Che Diaz's fate in the upcoming third season of And Just Like That ..., Variety confirmed today that the polarizing character would not be coming back. Production for the show is set to start later this year and should be ready for a season premiere date in 2025. Speculation about Che started when Ramírez posted about the Israel-Hamas war on Instagram, which led to the Daily Mail running a story about Ramírez being fired from the series because of their pro-Palestinian views.

"It’s wild how performative so many in Hollywood are. Even more performative than the last character I played," a specific post read, leading fans to focus on the "played." However, sources told Variety that those views had nothing to do with the decision not to have Che back — after all, their relationship with Miranda ended during season 2 of And Just Like That ...

Even before the news of Ramirez's future broke today, their character drew strong opinions from fans. In a Variety interview back in 2022, they said that they don't read the comments or online commentary regarding Che.

“Other people’s opinions of a character — that’s not something I can allow into my process,” they said. “I choose what I receive, right? That’s the beauty of being grown — I don’t have to receive everything!”

Showrunner Michael Patrick King even responded to viewers and their visceral reactions to Che, saying that it stems from people being uncomfortable with stand-up comics, not the specific character.

“Every time people say they don’t like Che, I go, ‘You mean you don’t like standups!'” King said after the season 2 finale. “I mean, you’re standing on stage asking people to think you’re art. It’s a lot, that character. The audience got to see other sides, which is all you’re supposed to be doing if you get more than one season.”

Regarding Che and Miranda, the he addressed the fact that both characters were in attendance at Carrie's dinner party and speculation of a possible reconciliation.

"Hopefully, at the end, they’re like, 'Good they’re not together, and they never will be,'" he said.
