Scaredy Cat Cane Corso Refuses to Swim Unless Mom Helps Him

The saying "You can't judge a book by its cover" rang absolutely true when it came to a giant Cane Corso who acts like a giant baby when it comes time to take a dip in the pool.

One would assume these large dogs aren't afraid of anything, but big boy Blue in the below video proves otherwise. Just check out how this sweet pup when dad tries to take him swimming versus mom.

The video, shared by the TikTok account for @maritza_barona, proves that even the toughest looking dogs can be apprehensive about certain things. Blue just loves his mama and didn't feel safe going swimming with anyone but her. The owners did everything right too by having this dog wear his own life jacket and letting him go in at his own pace.

Swimming is such an excellent skill for dogs to have, not only because it enriches their lives, especially when it comes time for a beach day or a walk by a pond, but in case of emergency where a dog being able to swim could save their life. Considering Blue lives in a house with a pool it's especially important that he knows what to do if he falls in.

All dogs don't enjoy swimming, and some may take longer to become comfortable in the water. Go slow, use positive reinforcement and lots of treats, and make sure you support your pup with a life jacket and by holding them.

If your dog shows signs of stress or fear, take them out of the water and try again another day. You can also check your area for dog swimming lessons. Your dog may always prefer going in the water with their special person present, but if they do know how to paddle you can rest easier knowing they will know what to do if they even fall in the water.
