If I had to choose one thing that sums up my love for Trader Joe’s, it would have to be its rotation of limited-time seasonal products. It reminds me of how a local bistro updates its menu throughout the year, leaving patrons looking forward to their seasonal favorites all year.

Trader Joe’s does an incredible job of incorporating current, in-season ingredients into a wide variety of their products, and it’s always a joy when I stumble across something new.

Last week, that “something new” just happened to come in the form of a Coconut Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate. And anyone who knows me knows that coffee-based products generally elicit a firm “no” from my mouth. However, I’ve been forcing myself into a bit of a taste bud-expanding renaissance, and I don’t know, I was feeling a little froggy, so I took a leap.

All About Trader Joe’s Coconut Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate

Cold brew coffee is different than other forms of coffee because it is never heated. This means the oils and acids that are usually released with heat will not pass through the brew. You get a much smoother result with about 50% less acid than a hot brewed cup and less of that bitter bean flavor.

Trader Joe’s Coconut Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate is crafted by coffee roasters in California using the same medium roast, 100% Arabica bean base as the brand's original Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate. The beans are coarsely ground and filtered before adding natural coconut flavor, giving the roast a bold, smooth-tasting consistency. This tropically-inspired brew is perfect for new coffee drinkers such as myself and the more experienced coffee drinkers who want to start their day with a summery seasonal twist.

What I (and Others) Love About This Coconut Cold Brew Concentrate

What really hits home with this seasonal brew is the ability to mix it with water or milk, giving me control over the strength of the natural coffee flavor. And speaking of that familiar bitter flavor, I can attest that this brew is especially smooth, with a coconut flavoring that is not at all overpowering, albeit present front and center.

Public opinion on this brew is overwhelmingly positive, with online reviews praising its smooth summer elixir. For $5.99 for a 16-ounce bottle, the value you get is more than worth it.

“I get this stuff every year! I love it so much,” one commenter exclaimed in response to a post about the roast on the famous Trader Joe’s Subreddit. “I do about 1 part concentrate to 3 parts water over ice,” they continued, “The best way to start a summer morning!”

And as a self-proclaimed non-coffee drinker, I’d have to agree. In celebration of summer, I sat on my stoop this morning, enjoying a cup of coconut cold brew, and thoroughly embraced the smooth, aromatic taste. I can see myself spiking it with whiskey or Kahlúa for a fun, late-night cocktail or making coconut coffee ice cubes to really up the ante on the summertime shenanigans.
