Frank Lloyd Wright was one of the most famous architects to ever grace the housing market — if not the most famous. While Wright didn’t build this particular compound that’s listed for $8.5 million in Spicewood, Texas, he had a strong influence in molding the architect who did.
John Covert Watson studied under Wright in the 1950s, something that “changed” his life, the architect noted according to Creede Fitch.com. Watson’s work is known throughout Austin, including the famous Mushroom House and Grotto Dome.
And now, this particularly nifty design of Watson is gracing the Hill Country market.
“Set on 30 stunning acres in Spicewood, The Retreat at Lick Creek Lodge is a one-of-a-kind compound offering the architecture lover the opportunity to be surrounded both by exquisite design and natural beauty,” the listing on Realtor.com says.
“Defined by its hyperbolic parabola roof which resembles a splayed deck of cards, this home is striking inside and out.”
The five-bedroom, 8.5-plus-bathroom is more than just a fancy face, and secrets flow throughout the interior of the home. Features, per the listing, include:
“Semi-circular motif”
Walls of glass
Cork floors
Fireplace
According to the listing, the home offers secrets across its 14,215-square-foot floorplan, like a “secret-door-accessed office and serene meditation room.”
There’s also a partly hidden grotto pool that pairs well with the 1,000-square-foot casita on the property, which has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, Mansion Global reported.
Spicewood is about a 35-mile drive northwest of Austin.
