Besties looking out for each other. Selena Gomez reportedly has some thoughts about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s romance. The Only Murders in The Building is happy for her best friend but she has some reservations.

The two are arguably one of Hollywood’s most supportive best friends. The “Love Story” singer and the “Love You Like A Love Song” musician actually first met when they were both dating the Jonas Brothers. In a 2017 interview with KIIS FM UK, Gomez revealed the circumstances and the friendship that bloomed out of it. “We actually dated the Jonas Brothers together! It was hysterical,” Gomez recalled. “It was amazing, because she was the girl with the big curly hair and all the bracelets and the cowboy boots. And I was definitely up-and-coming, and we just clicked. It was the best thing we got out of those relationships.”

Just earlier this year, Gomez made a tribute to what a true friend Swift is. “She can represent what she’s walking through so well,” Gomez said in a video at iHeartRadio Music Awards honoring the singer with the Innovator Award. “She’s a role model. I don’t think that’s something you sign up for; I just think it’s something you inherently have inside of you, and I think that’s Taylor.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Gomez even went on to say that Swift is a friendship that she holds close to her heart. “I never fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities. My only friend in the industry really is Taylor [Swift], so I remember feeling like I didn’t belong,” she said of her early days in the public eye. “I felt the presence of everyone around me living full lives. I had this position, and I was really happy, but … was I? Do these materialistic things make me happy?” She eventually realized, “I just didn’t like who I was, because I didn’t know who I was.”

A source close to Gomez told Page Six that Selena has some doubt about how Swift and Kelce’s relationship is playing out in the public sphere. “Selena thinks Taylor going to games and galavanting through New York immediately after just meeting Travis is something that is very unlike her,” the insider claimed. “Historically, Taylor’s always been super private about everything, and now with this [relationship], she’s so open about it that it’s just very odd for Selena.”

Though that’s not going to stop their friendship at all. The source confirmed that Gomez and Swift are “not in a fight” over the relationship, as evidenced by their recent sushi outing in Hollywood earlier in October. However, the source noted that Gomez thought that Kelce and Swift holding hands in public within less than a month of dating was also strange. She also was said to be caught off guard when she saw Swift hanging out with Travis’ mom, Donna Kelce, in a private suite.

It explains why Gomez hasn’t been seen at Kansas City Chiefs games. “Selena just doesn’t want to be part of the media frenzy because it’s really chaotic,” the source said. “It didn’t come from a malicious place, and it’s not that she doesn’t like them together. She’s just concerned about the way it’s being navigated.”

Gomez isn’t the only person who thinks like that according to the source. They also noted that the Haim sisters “think this way as well.” “That’s why the people she normally has these amazing relationships with weren’t [at Swift’s girls’ night out with Blake Lively, Brittany Mahomes and Sophie Turner],” the source went on to say.

Since then, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end has been bombarded about questions about his relationship status with the 33-year-old Midnights artist. “I said what I said. And you know what, it is what it is,” he said, before playing it coy about their relationship status on NFL+ With Andrew Siciliano. “I’m not gonna talk about my personal life,” he added.

Kelce went on to playfully tease listeners. “I know what you writers wanna hear, and you wanna hear more about that and I’m not gonna give you anything,” he joked while pointing a finger at the camera. Sicilliano pressed him for more, however. “Has she reached out?” he asked, to which Travis remained tight-lipped. “And that’s gonna wrap it up here,” he said, ending the interview.

Things started to stir up when Swift started to attend Chiefs games. Swift was spotted with Kelce’s mom Donna in a suite at Arrowhead Stadium and celebrating a touchdown that Kelce scored against the Chicago Bears. Right after the game, they drove down in Kelce’s convertible to an intimate dinner together.

“Shoutout to Taylor for pulling up,” Kelce said on his podcast New Heights that he co-hosts with his brother, Eagles center Jason Kelce. “That was pretty ballsy. I just thought it was awesome that everybody in the suite had nothing but good things to say about her, the friends, and family. She looked amazing, everybody was talking about her in great light, and on top of that the day went perfect for the Chiefs.”

Swift attended more games and with her crew with Blake Lively, Sophie Turner, Brittany Mahomes, and more. The two made cameos in a September episode of Saturday Night Live where right after they were walking hand in hand.
