Shawn Mendes Went Boho For His 21st Birthday
Summer 2019 has been good to Shawn Mendes. Currently enjoying the success of “Senorita,” the collaboration with his girlfriend Camila Cabello and a whirlwind tour, Mendes and his hits have been inescapable all season. His schedule is packed, but yesterday in Brooklyn Mendes found time to celebrate a milestone birthday. Now 21, the Canadian star is free to enjoy all the perks of adulthood, including wearing some of fashion’s most iconic talents. Hours before his B-Day bash at Dumbo House, he took to the streets in a patchwork shirt by Yohji Yamamoto.
Detailed with embroidered patches featuring Yamamoto’s illustrations, the shirt was far from the basic button-down. Worn open (because buttons are overrated) and paired with ripped denim, it made for a fresh and unexpectedly bohemian look.
Mendes and his stylist Tiffany Briseno have been smart about updating his wardrobe as he makes the move from teen heartthrob to adult rockstar. The transition has been smooth, thanks in part to insider-y wardrobe additions like the Yamamoto piece. After a great stretch of tailored menswear, he ditched the suits for his birthday and managed to look better than ever.
