Shih-Tzu Innocently 'Sits' on Human Baby Sibling and It's Too Cute to Resist

Many dog owners who become parents are extremely nervous about introducing their new baby to their fur baby, which is completely reasonable. This could be new territory for everyone, including your dog, and it's impossible to predict exactly how gently a pup will act. Fortunately, there are many helpful strategies for new parents to help desensitize their dog to the newborn, so by the time they meet face-to-face, it goes as smoothly as possible.

Just take it from Shih Tzus Mazie and Chase! They have two human brothers whom they get along with perfectly, but Maisie has an especially strong bond with the family's new baby. She loves him so much that she wants to be near him at all times, but the only problem is that he's too little to give this lap dog a lap! Or at least that's what I thought until I saw this hilarious and adorable February 14 video from the dogs' and boys' mom, Rose.

Aww! Mazie is as unbothered as can be as she cuddles up with her baby brother. This move couldn't be more intentional, and the Shih Tzu dog knows exactly what she's doing. After all, she is a lap dog—and there's a lap!

Commenters couldn't get enough of the small dog's unfazed reaction to being questioned by Mom, but one person brought up an excellent point. Dogs are known for smelling all kinds of chemical changes in the body, which is why they can often tell when their owner is sick, depressed, or even pregnant.

"Dogs know when something is wrong. Has baby had tummy problems?" she asked. "I just trust dog instincts." I know exactly what you mean—and so does Rose. She explained that her son had just gotten shots at the doctor, so this eagle-eyed viewer could really be onto something.

How Do Dogs Know to Be Gentle With Babies?

While many folks are busy giggling over this sweet Shih Tzu and the way she shows her love for her baby brother, others are downright amazed that she knows how to be gentle with him. Sure, they've had a few months to get used to one another by now, but many dogs can tell when to be gentle based purely on senses and instincts.

As amazing as it sounds, most dogs can tell the difference between an adult and a baby in many species. These loving creatures never cease to amaze me, especially when they're acting as sweet as Mazie and her baby bro.
