Shortcakes, book sale benefit Windham Library

WINDHAM — Strawberry lovers and book worms both had reasons to celebrate in Windham.

Scoop after scoop of ice cream, strawberries, and biscuits were dished out and sold at a weekend event to support the Friends of Windham Library.

The strawberry shortcakes and sundaes were served up in the cafeteria of Windham High School, 64 London Bridge Road on June 2. Tables lined the main hallway with information for different organizations, raffle baskets, and a few activities such as making beeswax candles.

The gymnasium was sectioned off for obstacle courses, bouncy houses, and other fun playtime activities for kids to run around and let off steam.

Just past the school’s library, the book sale by the Friends of Windham Library had everything from children’s picture books to romance novels for sale.

In the high school’s parking lot, there were different games including a strawberry-themed Plinko, mini golf courses, and ring tosses where child participants could win a small prize.

Disney songs blasted from speaker systems, with kids signing up for karaoke to sing songs from their favorite movies.

Kids could also spend time making different crafts, like friendship bracelets, colorful sand art bottles, and painting pet rocks. Vendors sold state fair foods like corn dogs and fresh popcorn, and Hawaiian-style shaved ice.
