Skier Flawlessly Impersonates Candide Thovex

Jordane Legal is a name that you should know if you're into freestyle skiing.

Here's a quick introduction to Legal with a video that some say is reminiscent of one of skiing's all-time greats: Candide Thovex.

As noted before, several commenters noticed the similarity between Legal's style and Thovex's:

"Bro is actually candide's offspring."

"Slight Candide vibes."

"@candidethovex this you?"

"Next Candide."

I know, I know, comparing anyone to Thovex, no matter how skilled, is a bridge too far for many skiers.

Here's the thing. I'm not, despite churning out roughly 40 articles a week for Powder, a global authority on skiing. Instead, I'm a fan of skiing, just like you, the reader.

However, as part of my job and as a consequence of my lifelong skiing addiction, I've watched a lot of skiing. Maybe too much skiing. Street parts. Backcountry parts. Park parts. Parts filmed on cameras older than I am. Parts shot from the door of a helicopter. I do my best to keep up with all of it.

And across my extensive viewing habits, I've never seen a skier do their thing and thought, "Huh, this person really reminds me of Candide Thovex." That is until I saw this short edit from Legal.

Everything, from his style to his high-speed, no-holds-barred approach, conjures images of Thovex. Interestingly, for me, it was the little things, like the way Legal moves his arms or how he contorts his body through a nose butter, that really sold the comparison.

Although Legal and Thovex share another important commonality beyond personal flair, both skiers are known for testing the limits of what's possible on skis.

Last winter, Legal sent a massive air that immediately went viral. Going viral beyond the limits of our niche sports subculture by hucking like nobody's business is Thovex's calling card, too.

With the Northern Hemisphere ski season rapidly approaching, I imagine we can anticipate more bar-setting skiing from Legal, so stay tuned. While I hesitate to call him the "next Candide Thovex," he might be the closest person to that weighty title on snow right now.
