Skier Nails Terrifying Rock Chute Straightline: "My Reaction Says It All"

Up next on our list of things you absolutely shouldn't try is this hectic line from skier Matthias Weger.

In the run, Weger skis a chute so narrow that, at several points during the run, he could reach out and touch a rock face.

You know how the phrase "no fall zones" gets thrown around in skiing? Like, "Oh, that double black diamond? That's a no-fall zone." In many cases, this phrase is a bit tired and misused. Just because a run is steep and has moguls doesn't necessarily mean it's a no-fall zone.

However, I think it's reasonable to say that certain sections of Weger's wild straight line, like the moment just after that choke, are no fall zones. Taking a tumble in there wouldn't be unlike getting hit by a car moving 30 or 40 miles per hour. But Weger, ever the athlete, knows exactly what he's doing, demonstrating mastery over the controlled chaos.

And the best part? The run you just watched is baby food compared to what Weger dropped last week.

Right? I just about threw my phone when I watched that. I feel like with the rise of tricks on the Freeride World Tour (an excellent development, in my opinion, for the record), I've seen less of the "pure freeride" shenanigans going on, so it's good to see Weger keeping the heart of the discipline alive.
