Packing for international travel never fails to stress me out, but my recent trip to Europe took the cake—even for me. First of all, I’d be traipsing the continent with only a duffel bag, meaning I had minimal space. And secondly, my itinerary spanned from the swanky streets of Paris to the laid back beaches of Costa Brava, so my outfits needed to fit an array of locales. Luckily, the sole pair of sandals I brought—these Steve Madden wedges—went with all my looks, and proved to be pretty comfy, too.
The ‘90s-inspired wedges come in several colors and fabrics, including a white style that’s on sale for over half-off and the black pair that I own. They’re designed with a wide strap across the top that’s made from soft textile, as well as thick rubber outsoles. After reaching for these sandals nonstop for two weeks, they’ve certainly made the cut for my future summer adventures.

My friends and family know that I typically refuse to wear heels, no matter the occasion (if a shoe makes my feet hurt, there’s no way I’m wearing it!). However, because I’m on the shorter side, I do love a platform shoe and always make exceptions for wedges like this pair. Whether I was strolling through museums or walking to a dinner reservation, I never had a problem while wearing these wedges on my trip. Plus, other shoppers who have made the purchase agree that these are “so easy to walk in” and can comfortably be worn “for hours.”
These shoes were also ridiculously easy to style, which is essential for a travel item. I often paired them with dark wash jeans and a basic tank or T-shirt for daytime wear, before switching to a flowy skirt or dress for the nighttime. Because my pair is in black, they went with all the pieces I packed, and instantly elevated my more casual looks. I also love that the “slinky,” thick strap is not only soft and stretchy, but makes the shoe look sleeker overall.
