Spring Fashion Trends According to ‘Queer Eye' Resident Fashion Expert Tan France

If you’re anything like us, you can’t get enough of Netflix’s brand-new reboot Queer Eye. The Fab Five have taught us how to whip up guacamole, what a beard should look like and that confidence begins the moment you step outside your comfort zone. The only downside to the show—besides that there aren’t nearly enough episodes—is that we want more fashion tips for ourself. (Who’s with us ladies?) Which is why we went straight to the source: Queer Eye’s resident fashion expert, Tan France. Below, he breaks down his favorite spring fashion trends for women and exactly how to pull them off, fabulously.

Ruching

Seen on runways from Tom Ford to Peter Pilotto, ruching is all over fashion this season, says France. “There are so many trends this season that are so stylish but really don’t work for the everyday woman,” he explains. “Ruching translates so well because it’s subtle and stylish, and can also help camouflage any trouble areas you might have.”

Fanny Packs

France is the first to admit that this isn’t an easy trend to wear. “But, they’re here to stay—and can be so flattering and helpful,” he says. His trick? Layering. “Wearing it alone can be a little chunky and odd,” he explains. “Always wear it straight across your middle—not slanted over a shoulder—and add in a cardigan, open button-down or jacket to help add some dimension and texture to your look.”

Lilac

It may be dubbed as the color of the season, but Tan suggests treading lightly. “Lilac and lavender are such beautiful hues, but they can be quite tricky to actually pull off and don’t necessarily look good on every skin tone,” he advises. “Instead of going full-on lilac, try a fun accessory like a coat or purse that will give you a pop of color without taking over your entire wardrobe.”

White

Lilac may be hard, but there’s no doubt that lighter hues are trending right now, France explains. His favorite? Bright white. “White is all over the place and is so, so flattering on everyone,” he says. “Specifically white suiting was a huge fashion week staple, but break that up and pick something like a white blazer over a solid or patterned top or dress.”
