Start Your Morning Strong With a Daily Devotional Bible Verse for Today, June 7, 2024

Woman outside praying and reading a Bible verse as a daily devotional

Studying the Bible is something that Christians know we should be doing regularly. After all, God's Word says, "Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it" (Joshua 1:8, NIV).

While we understand the importance of daily study, many of us have trouble turning it into a consistent practice and spiritual discipline—especially when it might feel as though we have no free time in our busy schedules.

Fortunately, there are quick ways to start your morning (or any time of day, really) strong and rooted in our religious beliefs, which brings us to this short, daily devotional (and Bible verse of the day) for today, Friday, June 7, 2024.

Scripture Reading for Today, June 7, 2024

"As long as Moses held up his arms, the Israelites won, but when he put his arms down, the Amalekites started winning. When Moses' arms grew tired, Aaron and Hur brought a stone for him to sit on, while they stood beside him and held up his arms, holding them steady until the sun went down. In this way Joshua totally defeated the Amalekites." — Exodus 17:11-13

Daily Devotional

What I love about this story is the visual that we see in these verses—Moses had to hold his arms up for the Israelites to defeat the Amalekites. But he wasn't alone—his loved ones were beside him and he didn't have to carry this literal and figurative weight by himself.

Sometimes, we see friends and family members struggling. Our cousin might not be getting much sleep with a newborn, someone you've casually stayed in touch with over the years has been in the hospital with her teenager, a friend might be studying for an upcoming exam—the scenarios are endless.

How can we help alleviate a burden from someone else? Can we provide a meal? Send gift cards? Come over to help with laundry/dishes/etc.? What about intentionally sitting with them—actively listening if they want to talk, or being nearby for tangible support like giving a hug, putting a hand on their arm, etc. We don't have to go about life's challenges alone. Caring for one another is its own type of victory.

Daily Prayer

Lord, please show us where we can symbolically hold up the arms of people in our lives and provide a place for them to sit and feel cared for. Even if we can't take away the challenge that someone's facing, we can do our best to make sure they don't feel alone. Remind us of this as we go about our days. Amen.
