Chill Out with a Glass of Strawberry FroséCaitlin Bensel

Bring the vacation to your backyard with this fruity frosé—a wine and strawberry slushie that tastes like summer in a glass. No special equipment is needed to make this summer cocktail—your blender will do all the work! Freezing the rosé wine in a baking dish is a genius way to expose more liquid to cold air so the wine freezes quickly and evenly. Just remember that alcohol takes longer to freeze than water; allow at least six hours (or overnight) for the rosé to freeze. This frozen drink will cool anyone down on a hot day. Serve a round at the next cookout or poolside with friends.

What does frosé taste like?

Consider this drink the grown-up strawberry slushie of your dreams. The rosé shines through in this frozen cocktail, but the strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice add balancing sweetness and tartness.

What fruit can be used to make frosé?

Fresh strawberries are classic in frosé—just look at that pink color! You could also try blending raspberries or very ripe peaches, adjusting the amount of sugar to taste. For fruit with seeds, be sure to strain the mixture before blending with the frozen wine.

Can you thicken a slushie or frosé?

If the frosé is a bit thinner than you'd like, return to the blender and add a few frozen strawberries. Unlike ice cubes, frozen fruit will thicken the slushie without watering down the flavor.

What kind of rosé is best for frosé?

Skip the very expensive bottles for this recipe; the fresh fruit and the ice-cold temperature will cover up the subtle flavor notes that come with a higher price tag. Of all the different types of wine, a dry rosé is a great complement to the fruit and won't be overly sweet with added sugar.

Can you make frosé ahead of time?

Yes! The rosé must be frozen in advance for this beverage to have its signature frosty consistency, but you can also prepare the strawberry puree hours ahead of time and store it in the fridge. When you're ready to serve the frosé, add the strawberry puree and frozen rosé to a blender and blender it up. Because the majority of the work can be done in advance, this is the perfect cocktail for entertaining guests.
