Summer is near and over 100 boaters raise money to help senior and disabled with meals

Jack Gladke of New York brought his 38-foot boat to Lake Hartwell because he likes the event that raises money to help elderly and disabled from Meals on Wheels of Anderson. The boat gets some looks from visitors, as many of the high-powered engine boats joining in for the same cause do. The sun is shining, the temperature is not too hot, and the sound of two 700SCi engines under the hood of the red 2008 Donzei 38DRC boat is what he and many enjoy, aside from supporting a well-established charity in Anderson County. Another rider leaving the dock says "It's a great day on the lake."

The fun run element of the Hartwell Lake Charity Run, from Green Pond Landing to Clemson Marina, on Friday precedes the bigger show, when over 100 boats ride Saturday, starting at Green Pond Landing on Hartwell Lake, visiting Clemson Marina, Sadlers Creek State Park, Western Carolina Sailing Club, Hartwell Marina, Harbor Light Marina South Dock, and private docks, to raise money to deliver meals to senior and disabled neighbors in Anderson County. In 2023, the event raised $110,000.
