Sun Valley Plans The Opening Of Additional Top To Bottom Terrain

Sun Valley Resort, Idaho, is expanding its early-season terrain offerings.

Yesterday, the resort shared that it would open additional runs and vertical on Friday, December 1st.

From the caption:

"The time for top to bottom skiing & riding is upon us! Beginning Friday, December 1st, Bald Mountain terrain including Upper & Lower College, Sunset Strip, and 42nd Street will be open in addition to Lower River Run! Lookout Lodge will also be opening on Friday, December 1st!"

The terrain expansions are located on Bald Mountain, including Upper & Lower College, Sunset Strip, and 42nd Street. These runs form a beginner terrain network that connects with Lower River Run.

Currently, the resort has one chairlift open—River Run—meaning opening additional terrain will significantly expand the options available to Sun Valley skiers. Plus, Sun Valley is known for its pitch-perfect groomers, so those gearing for top-to-bottom laps on Friday should anticipate a smooth ride.

Sun Valley embarked on a massive infrastructure improvement project focused on the Warm Springs base area this summer.

The resort removed the Greyhawk Lift, upgraded the Challenger Lift to a 35% faster six-seater, and installed a new version of the Flying Squirrel Lift. Sun Valley states that "these new lifts will not only improve skier circulation, they will also offer simplified ways to access other regions of the mountain."

Like several other resorts throughout the Pacific Northwest, Sun Valley has had a slow ski season start, receiving less snow than usual. However, NOAA predicts that the resort will benefit from a storm set to impact the PNW later this week.

While it's always possible for a storm to careen off course, it's looking likely that you Sun Valley skiers could be in for some boot-top powder turns on Saturday. Keep those snow dances up!
