Tampa, 2 other Florida cities among top 100 places to live, report says

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tampa and two other Florida cities are among the top 100 places to live, according to a new report from Livability.

Livability picked the top 100 cities by analyzing nearly 100 data points and using an algorithm that measured a city’s economy, housing and cost of living, amenities, transportation, environment, safety, education and health.

It also only considered small to mid-size cities with populations between 75,000 and 500,000 and cities with a median home value of $500,000 or less.

The following Florida cities made the list:

Tampa

According to Livability, Tampa made the list because it has “an affordable cost of living and is an excellent place to build a business.”

“From waterfront parks to museums and easy-to-reach beaches, Tampa residents have no shortage of fun ways to spend their weekends. Year-round balmy temps and professional sports teams to cheer on, plus a 2.4-mile riverwalk lined with fun things to do and see, add to the appeal. All of these fantastic amenities are a big reason why Tampa is one of the best places to live in the U.S,” the report said.

Gainesville

Livability said Gainesville made the list due to its affordability and its number of outdoor activities.

“Gainesville is home to the University of Florida, and those who live here can enjoy all kinds of perks associated with a college town and the youthful energy that spills over from the campus. Cheer on the Gators or catch performing arts shows at the 1,700-seat Phillips Center theater. One of the most unique things to do is head to the University of Florida Bat Houses around dusk to watch the winged mammals emerge at night. High-quality higher ed helps rank Gainesville as one of the best places to live in the U.S,” the report said.

Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale made Livability’s list for the city’s high quality of life.

“With an average temperature of 76 degrees, Fort Lauderdale is primed for enjoying the great outdoors, with access to miles of beaches and waterways where you can boat and paddle board, plus hundreds of parks, golf courses, gardens and more. When you’re ready to relax, you can head back to a home that suits you and your lifestyle, whether it’s a waterfront condo, an LGBT-friendly neighborhood or a quaint suburban home. And when it comes to education and business here, both are thriving,” Livability said.
