Taylor Swift’s New Song Lyrics Have People Thinking She’s Engaged to Joe Alwyn

Taylor Swift is the queen of hiding secret messages and clues in her lyrics, music videos, and social media posts, and with her seventh album Lover dropping on August 24, the Taylor Swift Fan Theory Machine is in high gear. Fans have been poring over every single detail to figure out what secrets Lover may hold, and they think they’ve cracked a major one. Does her new song “Lover” actually mean she’s engaged to her boyfriend of three years, Joe Alwyn?

Fans have been speculating about an engagement between Taylor and Joe since the Reputation days, though both the singer and the actor have kept the details of their relationship relatively private. However, Taylor’s Vogue interview gave us a sneak peek at some of the lyrics to title track “Lover,” and they sound a lot like a familiar wedding rhyme: “My heart’s been borrowed and yours has been blue,” Taylor reportedly sings. “All’s well that ends well to end up with you.” Doesn’t that remind you of the old wedding adage for brides: “Something old/something new/something borrowed/something blue?”

According to E! News, a fan posted this theory to Tumblr, one of Taylor’s favorite social media platforms not only to post on but to “lurk” around her fans, and the singer liked it. Could wedding bells soon be ringing for Tay and Joe?

It’s entirely possible that Taylor is just teasing us, and that the full story of their romance will always be a secret, but then again, she could be revealing some very important secrets about her personal life via Lover. The album itself has a whopping 18 tracks, which means we’ll have a lot of coded messages to figure out once it debuts — and we’ve got our detective hats at the ready to solve them.
