TikToker Was Duped Into Buying Fake Prada Shoes at Goodwill for $300

Maiya Mindoro, a Denver-based TikToker, unknowingly purchased a pair of counterfeit Prada loafers before realizing they were fake.

Mindoro thought she was getting the deal of a lifetime, picking up the popular $1,200 shoes for just $300 at a Goodwill boutique. In her initial post, she wrote over a clip of herself showing off the shoes, “POV you walk into a Goodwill in Denver + immediately find patent leather Prada loafers that are in perfect condition in your size.” However, viewers of the video gave a closer look at the shoes and commented that they didn’t look like the real thing.

Mindoro responded to the comments in a third video, admitting the loafers featuring Prada’s signature triangle logo were indeed an imitation. “Obviously, I knew there was a really high chance of them not being real because I got them from a Goodwill,” she said. “This is totally my fault, not the store’s fault. They never claimed that they were authentic.”

Mindoro then revealed she was convinced they were inauthentic when comparing the shoes to other Prada items purchased directly from the brand. She noticed the logo nameplates were off as the logo on the duplicates was raised and on real Prada pieces, the logo lies flat.

One commenter wrote, “Pls tell us you went back and returned it. Selling counterfeit in the US is illegal so there’s a high chance you can get your money back!!!!” In a final update video, she shared that she had received a refund from the store.

Mindoro’s first video went viral on the social media and received more than 450,000 views.
