Take a trip back to the early 2000s with this Y2K thrift haul

If you’ve ever wanted to emulate early aughts style icons like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, you should hit some thrift shops.  In this episode of ITK: Thrift Talk, our host and thrifting expert, Siena Filippi (@simply.siena), is on a mission to find the perfect Y2K thrift haul, inspired by the game-changing looks of the era.

“The thing about the 2000s is you have to be a little bit trashy but ironic, cute, princess-chic,” Siena says. “Those are main staples in my personal style.”

Shopping at Regeneration (@re_generation) in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Williamsburg, Siena sets out to find tops that define early 2000s style. As the store features curated shops by individual vendors, this proves an easy feat for Siena. She selects a few baby tees with bold logo detailing and grabs a micro skirt while she’s at it.

Next, she searches for some options in bottoms, instantly grabbing a pair of straight-leg logo track pants before finding low-rise cargo jeans. Of course, no look is complete without accessories. For this, Siena finds hot pink platform sandals, an O-ring belt and a pink belt.

And now it’s time for Siena to hit the dressing room and determine which of her finds will work best to achieve her vision of the perfect early 2000s outfit. The winning look consists of the low-rise jeans, a spray-printed tank, the platform sandals, the pink belt and a pair of oversized sunglasses to finish the look.

“Alright, people are looking at me funny, which I think means we accomplished our mission,” Siena says as she steps out onto the street.
