Troye Sivan Is Man of the Year, Says He's More In Touch With His Femininity Than Ever

One of your girls? More like one of your men of the year!
On Wednesday, December 6, Troye Sivan attended GQ Australia’s 2023 Men of the Year Awards held at the Bondi Pavilion in Sydney, Australia. While many other celebrities received different awards, the Something to Give Each Other musician won the most prestigious title of the night: Man of the Year.
After thanking GQ Australia for the honor, Sivan said in his acceptance speech:
“It’s not lost on me the irony of me winning ‘man’ of the year when I did drag for the first time this year. I feel more in touch with my femininity than ever, and I think it speaks to a point I’d really like to make: which is that my relationship with masculinity has been very strange my entire life. I existed in this grey area between not being invited to sleepovers for girls’ nights and not getting along with any of the boys.”
The singer added, “Unlearning and de-programming all of that has taken so many years and lots of people. I’m so lucky to have incredible women in my life. I pull so much from them, and their strength and power is something I’m in awe of. I also have incredible men in my life. And the biggest thing for me has been the queer people in my life that I’ve met along the way. These are people I look to for self-love first and foremost, and for love of each other and love of community.”
Other celebrities honored this year by GQ Australia include nonbinary actor Zoe Terakes (Actor of the Year), Dion Lee (Creative Force of the Year), Eddie Benjamin (Breakthrough Musician of the Year), James Parr (Model of the Year), Dom Dolla (Solo Artist of the Year), Noah Beck (International Sensation), Sam Rechner (Breakthrough Actor of the Year), Otis Hope Carey (Artist of the Year), Robert Irwin (Social Force), Nathan Cleary (Sportsman of the Year), Reece Walsh (Breakthrough Sportsman of the Year), and Adam Briggs (Australian Icon).
