Fox News has officially named the host set to take over as Tucker Carlson's replacement: commentator Jesse Watters.
Watters previously appeared on The O'Reilly Factor–where he rose to popularity with his on-the-street segment, "Watters' World"–served as co-host on the network's The Five and also hosted his own opinion talk show, Jesse Watters Primetime, which is said to be moving back an hour to the 8 p.m. time slot to fill Carlson's programming, according to a statement from the network.
Carlson suddenly departed his 15-year stint at the broadcast company earlier this year after the personality "agreed to part ways" with the network in April. A Fox News spokesperson said at the time, "Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday, April 21st. Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 PM/ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating Fox News personalities until a new host is named."
In the weeks since, Fox has sampled a series of rotating hosts, which have included the likes of Fox & Friends' Brian Kilmeade, as well as Lawrence Jones, but looks to have ultimately decided on the 44-year-old media personality–and given his credentials, he seems like a natural fit.
The news also comes just days after Geraldo Rivera announced he would be leaving his position at Fox News' weekday roundtable, The Five.
"Morning, it’s official, I’m off @TheFive,” Rivera shared on Wednesday, June 21 via Twitter. "My last scheduled show appearances are Thursday and Friday June 29th and 30th."
"It’s been a great run and I appreciate having had the opportunity," Rivera continued, "Being odd man out isn’t always easy. For the time being, I’m still Correspondent at Large."
