Twitch Bans Stake.com and Other Major Gambling Sites

With the recent rise in gambling broadcasts from the top Twitch streamers in the community, a number of ethical issues have arisen, from the idea of promoting unhealthy gambling habits to minors to fraud. Gambling was becoming one of the most popular categories of content on Twitch, and streamers such as Tyler Faraz "Trainwreck" Niknam reported making up to a million USD a month from the gambling companies.

After a number of streamers threatened to strike if no action was taken, Twitch management issued an announcement indicating that "streaming of gambling sites that include slots, roulette, or dice games that aren't licensed in the U.S. or other jurisdictions that provide consumer protection," will be banned beginning on October 18. Some of the biggest sites to be prohibited from the streaming platform include Stake.com, Rollbit.com, Duebits.com, and Roobet.com. Twitch says that list may grow in the future going forward. For now, sports betting, fantasy sports, and poker will still be allowed on the platform.
