Usher Just Revealed Why He Doesn't Eat Anything On Wednesdays

While you might think that a star of Usher's caliber feasts exclusively on caviar, A5 Wagyu, and Don Julio 1942, the singer's diet looks a little different these days. In fact, he's on a full-blown health journey that includes fasting for an entire day each week.

During a recent sit-down with the Wall Street Journal, Usher revealed that he skips food altogether (and only sips water) every single Wednesday.

"I fast, not for religious purposes, but it’s something my grandmother practiced," he told the outlet. "I typically try to start around 11 pm the previous day, then go the entire day on Wednesday just drinking water."

The rest of the week, the Grammy Award-winning artist starts his day with celery juice and scrambled eggs with cheese, or poached or over easy eggs—but only after a quick early-morning workout.

"I don't like to eat breakfast before I've worked out or done something physical: taking a walk, stretching, or doing yoga, sitting in the sun and raising my body's natural heat levels. Then I eat," he said.

As for his workout routine, Usher really upped his regimen in preparation for his Super Bowl halftime performance, which he calls the "hardest 15 minutes that I’ll ever have in my life."

"Being able to go after it the way that I needed to do—vocally, energetically, spiritually and physically—it did call for me to consistently work out every day," he admitted. "I didn’t really have the time to do a lot of other things. I was remedying my body the night before and waking up the next day and eating a very regimented, low-carb diet."

However, his normal workout routine (ya know, when he's not preparing for the year's biggest performance in pop culture) is a little more casual.

It starts with "either walking or with certain knee activations and reverse walking that I do to really engage my quads, my knees and glutes," Usher said. "I’ve had minor surgeries on my knee, I had a torn meniscus. Other than that, swimming is a really good thing to get me going, and bike riding. Weight lifting, don’t do a lot of that."
