Utah Treasure Hunt 2024 narrows down location with first set of hints

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Last week, the details of this year’s Utah Treasure Hunt were revealed, prompting eager adventurers to head outdoors and hike in pursuit of the $25K prize.

This year has a twist, with the riddle being in Spanish when it hasn’t been in another language before. Organizers David Cline and John Maxim said they like to make the hunt a little different each year.

They said to keep in mind locations are chosen with safety in mind, wanting to remind hunters to bring enough water and sunscreen.

As the riddle has yet to be solved, Cline and Maxim released a few hints to go along with the riddle, to help hunters as they continue searching.

Utah Treasure Hunt 2024 Riddle:

Hints will be coming out every Friday until the treasure is found. The first set, released June 21, are:

Hint #2:

On the 10th line “el llegó” should have been “él llegó” we missed the accent. All other capitalizations, punctuation and grammar are intentional. Take a special look at the only first letter of a line that isn’t capitalized.

Hint #3:

We didn’t measure it exactly but the chest is hidden approximately 30-50 feet off the trail.

Cline and Maxim also included a list of tips to remember:

  • We will never hide the chest in a state or national park

  • The chest is not inside a cabin, shed or any kind of structure

  • You will never have to purchase anything to solve the clues in the poem

  • We will never hide the chest at a ski resort

Organizers also wrote that this year’s chest is in the safest location yet, and encouraged hunters to snap a quick picture of themselves cleaning up garbage while out hiking.

“We have been working on a project for three years and are almost ready,” they wrote.
