Where are the best places for ice cream in Hattiesburg? Get the scoop

Summertime is here and so is the time for ice cream. We chose our favorite shops in the Pine Belt, in case you missed the ice cream truck in your neighborhood.

Hershey's ice cream

We found two places in Hattiesburg that sell Hershey's ice cream, so whether you're midtown or downtown, you can find it pretty easily. We're throwing in a bonus location in Ellisville, in case you're making a trip to Jones County and need a fix.

  • Igloo Creamery, Westwood Square, 4400 Hardy St., suites A8 and A9. Open from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily.

  • Pop and Co. ice cream and gourmet popcorn, 203 Mobile St., downtown. Open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays.

  • Bennie and Mae's, 100 North Court St., Ellisville. Summer hours are noon to 8 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays, noon to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays.

Baskin-Robbins

The Baskin-Robbins ice cream shop, 3720 Hardy St., in Hattiesburg recently underwent renovations but is back open to dish up one (or more) scoops of its 31 flavors for fans of the sweet shop. The ice cream brand is known for its numerous ice cream flavors and its sundaes and ice cream cakes. The shop is open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays.

The Yard Milkshake Bar

The Yard's Unicorn milkshake features cotton candy ice cream with a marshmallow cream-coated jar dipped in sprinkles and topped with whipped cream, a unicorn cone made in-house, a rainbow candy stripe and cotton candy.

The Yard Milkshake Bar, 3002 Hardy St., Suite 120, is located in The District at Midtown, across from the University of Southern Mississippi. If you're looking for something fun and fancy, this is the place. The milkshake bar offers dozens of toppings for more than two dozen flavors of ice cream. Choose one of the ice cream bar's popular shakes or create one of your own. The Yard is open from noon to 9 p.m. daily.

The Shoppe Ice Cream and More

The Shoppe Ice Cream and More, 78 Shelby Speights Drive, in Purvis serves Blue Bell, the state's favorite ice cream brand. In addition to cones and sundaes, The Shoppe also offers soups, salads, sandwiches and more, for a fun, family-friendly dining experience. The Shoppe is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays.

Bros' Den Ice Cream and Coffee

The Bros' Den Ice Cream and Coffee Shop, 1231 Mississippi 42, Suite 140, in Petal offers ice cream from Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream, based in Madison, Wisconsin, with plenty of fun flavors to choose from, including Fat Elvis, Kitty Kitty Bang Bang and super colorful Super Human. The shop is open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. It adjoins Po' Bros and Mo' restaurant, so the family can stop in for a meal before dessert or skip dinner and go straight for the cold stuff.
