Whistler Blackcomb Grom Goes Massive Last Winter

Picture the biggest cliff you've seen someone hit at your home resort. And then picture what would happen if a skier hit this imposing cliff going as fast as possible.

Odds are, it would look something like this mindblowing video from Pemberton, B.C., based young gun Tannen DesBrisay.

Absolutely bonkers. That was huge. And the kid's only 15.

What's more, he almost put this one to his feet. All things considered, that crash wasn't all that bad.

Kids these days, I'm tellin' you. The younger up-and-comers in the freeride scene are pushing the sport forward at a ridiculous rate.

What's next? A 13-year-old triple backflipping a cliff? Honestly, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised.

Whistler Blackcomb, where this video was shot, is ground zero for the next generation of freeride, churning out top-tier future talents at a borderline alarming rate. It feels like half the younger names to know ski at Whistler Blackcomb.

Why is that? Honestly, not sure. But I imagine it boils down to a few factors: coaching access, terrain, and culture.

Whistler Blackcomb has perhaps the best and most varied terrain in North America, making it the perfect stomping ground for a grom pursuing a professional skiing career.

As for coaching, when I was a little freerider, the Whistler team kids would absolutely clean up at all the competitions I attended. It seems like whatever their coaches were doing then is still working.

And culture. If you love skiing (and don't mind having 15 roommates), Whistler Blackcomb is the place to be. Strong ski culture tends to create strong skiers.
