Wild Side: Nigerian Dwarf goat visits from Tanganyika Wildlife Park

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Tanganyika Wildlife Park Director Matt Fouts brought in a 3-week-old Nigerian Dwarf goat to KSN’s Wild Side Wednesday afternoon.

Fouts said the goat he brought in is one of 13.

“Come out to the park. You can feed these guys, and you’ll get to see some of the babies. They’re incredibly cute watching them play,” said Fouts.

Baby goats get milk from their mother; as they wean and become more independent, they are fed a mix of hair and grain.

Nigerian Dwarf goats derive from West Africa.

“Goats are very important in terms of livestock because they can provide so many things like milk, which they can use to make cheese, obviously meat, they’ll use them for meat, and so they’re very important staples for them as far as a protein source and that kind of stuff,” said Fouts.

These goats have rectangular pupils.

“That allows them to see more of kind of a wide view so that they can see their predators a little bit easier,” said Fouts.
