Paris Men’s Fashion Week Day 1

Nothing describes better where Paris Fashion Week Men’s is at present than the mega hyped show of Pharrell Williams for Louis Vuitton. This time around, the show was staged at the iconic UNESCO headquarters in Paris and with the Olympics just a few weeks away the message of diversity and worldliness was on target.

With a collection featuring 81 looks and a variety of themes ranging from military aviation to soccer, the choice was wide but a sleek brown leather blazer with rounded collard paired with tonal bell bottom cargo pants and heritage logo LV suitcase captured the essence of Paris chic while still feeling cool and modern.

Lemaire is one of those brands that are extremely consistent, season after season, to their minimalism approach, slouchy silhouettes and romantic volumes. This time around their codes feel more on point than ever specially as Paris seems to be celebrating classics with a twist. A relax trucker denim jacket over a pleaded baggy jeans accessorized with a brown suede shoulder bag did exactly that.

“It’s all about waking up in the morning, having different things in mind,” the designer duo said backstage. “You don’t have so much time and you need good friends in your wardrobe — accomplices — that will make you feel confident.” This is the type of accomplice that rules.

Mike Amiri is one of the very few American menswear designers who are constantly having a presence here in Paris Fashion Week while reimagining heritage California style. His vision of American luxury this time around brought back memories of midcentury Hollywood stars and Las Vegas’ Rat Pack culture.

The collection’s sartorial message translated into elongated jackets with dropped peak lapels paired with loose flared pants giving equal rock ’n’ roll vibes as well as a continental chic vibe. The perfect example: a beige blazer paired with matching retro polo and belt bottom jeans brought back young Robert Redford memories and what’s not to love about that!

Dior’s designer Kim Jones paid homage to the South African master potter Hylton Nel. Jones presented a Spring collection full of the artist’s creations appearing as playful patterns and slogans on knitwear, suits and also as bird designed buttons in outerwear. A blue and white jacket covered in floral embroidery that required almost 2,000 hours of work, paired with a hand knifed cloche hat, was the perfect bohemian cool summer outfit.

There are many reasons why this midnight blue double breasted suit with golden embroideries is the winner look of the day. First, it belongs to the last collection that Mr. Dries Van Noten designed for his namesake brands. Second, the languid sartorial silhouette is one of the key tailoring messages of this Spring season and, last but not least, the look and vibe are classic Dries and this, today and probably forever, is a win win proposition. He will be missed.
