1 dead, 3 injured in Friday shooting

Jun. 22—Meridian Police Department is investigating after a shooting Friday left one person dead and three others injured.

In a prepared statement, Police Chief Deborah Naylor Young said officers responded to a shots fired call in the 500 block of 53rd Avenue at 6:30 p.m. where one gunshot victim was at the scene.

"The victim was later pronounced dead at a local hospital," Young said. "Three other victims were transported by a private owner's vehicle to a local hospital with gunshot wounds."

MPD's Gang Unit, Special Operations Unit and detectives are investigating the shooting, Young said, and anyone with information is asked to contact MPD or East Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 855-485-8477.
