1 killed in crash on Famoso-Porterville Highway

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — One person died early Friday in a collision at Famoso-Porterville Highway and Cecil Avenue that occurred when a Toyota turned directly in the path of another vehicle, according to California Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Toyota, a 20-year-old Richgrove man, died at the scene, officers said. The Delano woman who drove the other vehicle suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The crash was reported at 3:05 a.m. Officers said alcohol may be a possible factor.

Officers said the Toyota was traveling east on Cecil Avenue as the other vehicle headed south on the highway. A stop sign controls eastbound and westbound traffic at the intersection.

“For unknown reasons, the driver of the Toyota made a northbound turn onto Famoso-Porterville Highway, directly in the path of the Honda,” according to a CHP release.
