1 Puppy Dead & 13 Rescued After Minivan Crash in Connecticut
On June 20, a minivan carrying dozens of puppies crashed into a utility pole and rolled over in Woodstock, Connecticut. While most of them made it out alive, one pup had to be euthanized due to their injuries. However, several canines were injured and are being treated for the same. Fortunately, the driver was also not severely wounded.
Minivan carrying 14 puppies crashes and rolls over in Woodstock
A minivan transporting 14 puppies to their new homes crashed and rolled over on Thursday. The vehicle hit a utility pole, and the cause is still under investigation. The incident took place early in the morning in Woodstock, Connecticut. Fortunately, most of the pups and the driver safely made it out of the rollover crash.
There were several dog breeds in the minivan, but many were Pugs, per WTNH. All the puppies were in crates in the back of the vehicle. When the firefighters arrived to help rescue the driver, he informed them about the canines. Due to the severity of the rollover crash, the rescuers had their suspicions that any of the puppies would make it out of the minivan safely.
Luckily, most of them seemed alright, although the crash damaged their crates. Some of the pups were sent to the Tufts Veterinary Emergency in Massachusetts. Unfortunately, one of them couldn’t make it and had to be euthanized because of fears of their quality of life. The rest were sent to a local shelter, where they are receiving further examination before they are on their way to their new homes.
Fire Chief Eric Young told ABC News that the driver felt terrible about the accident and was quite shaken when he was rescued. The canines were also in a similar condition, with some in respiratory distress when saved. Fortunately, oxygen was on board when they were transported, with the puppies being supplied the same using a mask.
