17-year-old girl killed in shooting near Ellendale Community Center named by police

Delaware State Police have identified the 17-year-old girl fatally shot near the Ellendale Community Center on June 9 as Ahniya Coverdale of Harrington.

Police said a fight broke out between "several people" on the 12000 block of N. Old State Road at about 4:30 p.m. on June 9. An unknown suspect fired shots into the crowd, fatally striking Coverdale. A 19-year-old man was also injured in the shooting.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
