2 dead, 1 hurt after car flies off exit ramp and into LAX parking lot

Two people were killed and another hurt after a vehicle flew off an exit ramp and into a Los Angeles International Airport parking lot.

According to updated information released by the Los Angeles Police Department, the crash occurred just before 3 a.m. Saturday at the Nash Street exit off the westbound span of the 105 Freeway.

After hitting the off-ramp wall, a Lexus SUV landed in an LAX parking lot for FedEx Air Freight employees, initial information indicates. It then caught fire on impact, video from the scene shows.

The Lexus had careened off the ramp, landed on its roof and sustained severe damage; police at the scene told KTLA 5’s Jennifer McGraw that the Lexus crashed on top of several parked vehicles, including a Ford Mustang reportedly belonging to a Fedex Air Freight employee.

Of the three victims, two were pronounced dead at the scene, LAPD confirmed, adding that they were all in the same vehicle.

It is not known if speed was a factor in the crash, but “it likely was” due to the off-ramp’s sharp curve, McGraw said.

Neither the two decedents nor the injured victim have been identified, and both CHP and LAX police are handling the investigation.
