2 dead after shootout at 31st Street Harbor; multiple people in custody

CHICAGO — A man and a woman were killed after a shootout near 31st Street Harbor overnight, according to Chicago police.

The shooting happened around 3:15 a.m. Friday in the 3100 block of South Lake Shore Drive.

Police said officers responded to calls of a person shot and found a 23-year-old man and 22-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies. Both were pronounced dead on the scene.

According to police, preliminary investigation finds that the male victim was exchanging gunfire with multiple people on the scene. Multiple men were placed into custody, police said.

Multiple weapons were also recovered.

The cause of the shooting is unknown at this time. An investigation is underway.

This is the third shooting along the lakefront this week, the second near 31st Street Beach.
