Update: 2 girls hurt when dad is suspected of driving drunk and hits a semi in Kennewick

Two young children were hospitalized Thursday night when a suspected drunk driver crashed into a semi truck just south of the blue bridge in Kennewick.

Jesse Moctezuma Chino of Pasco was headed north on Highway 395 shortly before 9:15 p.m. in a Honda Accord when he slammed into the truck hauling a Target trailer, according to the Washington State Patrol. The car was merging from Highway 240.

A picture taken by a witness shows the Accord wedged sideways under the trailer.

The witness told the Tri-City Herald that Moctezuma Chino, 25, appeared highly intoxicated and that beer bottles were everywhere in the car.

The girls, ages 4 and 6, are Moctezuma Chino’s daughters and lived in Kennewick. They were wearing seat belts but were injured and taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland. Their conditions were not available Friday.

Neither Moctezuma Chino nor the semi driver, Nolan G. Williams, 38, were hurt.

Troopers booked Moctezuma Chino into jail on suspicion of vehicular assault.

In court on Friday, Judge David Petersen set bail at $500,000 based on the allegations in the court documents. It was more than double what prosecutors asked for.

If released, he will be required to have an ignition interlock placed on his car and submit to alcohol monitoring.

The judge also issued two domestic violence protection orders for the girls.

Highway 12 crash

WSP troopers also responded to another serious crash on Highway 12 about four miles west of Touchet a few hours later.

Jakelyn Villalpando, 32, of Walla Walla, was headed east on the highway about 12:15 a.m. Friday when she lost control of her Nissan Rogue. The car flipped and landed on the right shoulder, the WSP said in a release.

Investigators are not sure why she lost control.

Villalpando, who was not wearing a seat belt, was flown to Kadlec Regional Medical Center.

Her condition was not immediately available Friday.
