2 Men Arrested in Connection with Death of Missing Man Whose Remains Were Found Buried in a Freezer

Edward Elliott, 64, was last seen in late January or early February, police said

Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of a man whose remains were found in a buried freezer.

The remains of Edward Elliott, 64, were found on May 15 inside a freezer that was buried off a remote road in Hampton, Tenn., WJHL reported.

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office said Elliott was last seen in the Roan Mountain area in either late January or early February. He was reported missing to the Carter County Sheriff’s Office on March 31 by a family member.

At the time, authorities said he was wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt with cut-off sleeves. Authorities also reported that he suffered from a medical condition that could impair his ability to return safely home without assistance.

Last week, Jim Chambers was taken into custody in connection to Elliott's death. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced on May 22 that Chambers was apprehended in Louisiana with the help of the FBI office in New Orleans, Louisiana State Police and Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

He has been charged with first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence, per Kingsport Times-News.

His alleged accomplice, Joey Guinn, 46, was charged with first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence in mid-May, per WJHL.

The investigation heated up in mid-April after police received an anonymous tip that Elliott was severely beaten by Guinn and another man, according to an affidavit obtained by WJHL. The attack allegedly happened outside Guinn’s Hampton home, per WJHL.

Investigators searched Guinn’s home and nearby properties and found Elliott's remains.

“With the assistance of a cadaver dog, we pinpointed a location that made a positive hit on it,” Sheriff Mike Fraley said at a May 16 press conference announcing Guinn's arrest. “We asked for metal detectors to be brought up and they were, and they actually confirmed there was something in the ground. Several hours later a box was exhumed, and a human body was found in that small freezer.”
