20,000 pounds of beef sold in California, three other states recalled

More than 20,000 pounds of beef that was imported from Uruguay and sold in California, Arizona, Oregon and Washington is being recalled, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Tuesday.

The beef was imported by South American Meat Inc., also known as 5Gogi LLC of Commerce, California, and sold to distributors, restaurants, retailers and institutions in the four states, the USDA said.

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said that the meat was not presented for inspection when it was shipped into the United States.

The items were imported about March 17, 2024. They are marked Frigorifico Casa Blanca S.A. Aguja.

The USDA says that beef that was sold in Oregon with this label is being recalled.

They also have 58 printed inside the Uruguay inspection mark and on the vacuum sealed packaging.

The USDA said there have been no reports of adverse reaction due to eating the meat but urged anyone in possession of the beef not to consume or serve it.

"These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase," the recall notice said.
