2024 Columbus trash pickup: Does Juneteenth holiday change your garbage pickup?

Hopefully, Columbus residents haven't grown too attached to their current trash pickup days; they're about to change again.

It's only been a few weeks since Memorial Day shifted trash days around, now Juneteenth is coming along to move them again.

Many of the city's public services are closed Wednesday to observe the holiday, and garbage collection is no exception. Here's what you need to know about how your trash pickup might change.

Is there trash pickup in Columbus on Juneteenth?

No, there will not be any trash pickup on Juneteenth.

If you live in one of the city's "Color Collection" zones, your trash pickup day will move forward by one day. For example, people who live in the gray color zone will have their trash pickup day change from Mondays to Tuesdays.

The city's full 2024 schedule for color zones is available here.

If you don't live in a color zone, you likely have a two-day window when your trash is normally collected. During a normal week, trash is collected on the first day in the two-day window, but during holiday weeks, it's collected on the second day in the window if collection falls on or after the holiday.

For example, if your two-day window is Tuesday and Wednesday, your trash will be picked up on Wednesday instead of Tuesday for the week.

When is my trash pickup day in Columbus?

The city has a "Collection Day Lookup" you can use to determine when your trash day is.

If you already know what color zone you live in, you can call one of the city's "Color Collection Hotlines" 24/7 to find out when your next trash day is, according to the city's website.
