3 dead, at least 10 wounded in mass shooting outside Mad Butcher store in Arkansas

A mass shooting outside a grocery store in southern Arkansas on Friday killed three people and wounded at least 10 others, including two police officers.

The shooting unfolded around 11:30 a.m. local time, at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce.

One of the officers who was shot suffered non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said. Several other victims were in critical condition as of early Friday evening.

The alleged gunman, whose name has not been released, was also “critically injured after being shot by law enforcement” and has since been arrested, officials said.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined.

Videos and images circulating on social media appear to show a gunman holding a rifle, walking slowly and firing shots from a parking lot.

In one of the videos, recorded from inside what appears to be a neighboring store, one man says “he tried to shoot the police.”

“There’s a shooting going on,” says another man filming the scene from a nearby gas station. At least 11 shots can be heard during the 39-second clip.

“There’s somebody lying on the parking lot, shot,” he adds.

Images from reporters on the scene showed the grocery store’s windows covered in bullet holes.

Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders wrote on X she has been briefed on the “tragic shooting in Fordyce” and thanked first responders “for their quick and heroic action to save lives.”

Fordyce, a city of about 3,300 people, is located approximately 70 miles south of Little Rock.
